Reminder!

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 3, is the first Calgary Flames game of the year. Join Mr. Sandberg in showing your support by wear your Flames gear on Thursday!

This week:
  • We continue to explore number and counting efficiently in Math through our "Masloppy" inquiry. Today we practiced subatizing and using ten frames. If you have a moment, please watch this video together and ask your child how they know what the number is:
                   Country Subatizing Song

  • Literacy
    • We have begun our literacy flex grouping. Ask your child who their teacher is for literacy and what they have done so far! If you would like to volunteer your time for our literacy block, please see the Sign Up Genius in your inbox. Please contact Mr. Sandberg if you have any questions.
    • Home Reading is coming home today!!
      • The lunch supervisors have worked diligently for weeks to get this program up and running. Our recommendation is to read the books in the book bags as many times as you can. Eventually the words will come quicker, and the fluency should improve. We want to ensure our students are building their confidence as well as their reading abilities.

  • Inquiry
    • Students continue to learn through the lens of a Praire Entomologist. Yesterday students learned how to annotate a non-fiction scientific article about Amazing Insects. Ask your child what they remember from that article. Who is an expert runner? Expert flyer? Expert swimmer? What new questions do they have after reading the article?
    • Today students went on a Tour de Alberta! Through Google Earth, they explored specific Calgary and Alberta landmarks. Ask your child where they went today!

Halloween

Halloween 2019
  • Royal Oak is excited to invite students to wear their Halloween costumes on October 31st. Please have students come dressed in their costume in the morning (PM Kindergarten & EDC, please come ready in the afternoon!).

Please have your child practice getting in and out of their costume so they can independently dress for washroom breaks.  We ask that costumes do not include: masks, weapons, accessories, or blood/gore.

Regular learning activities will continue throughout the day. Students will get the opportunity to share their costumes with each other by participating in a parade in the halls at 9:30 am. This year, parents are invited to watch the parade in the gym. Please arrive a few minutes early to find a seat. PM Kindergarten students are also invited to watch the parade in the morning, and will have their own parade in their classrooms in the afternoon. In keeping with learning about healthy eating, please do not send any special treats or snacks to share.

We look forward to seeing all of your costumes!
