Welcome to Grade 3!
Dear Parents and Guardians, Hello, my name is Weston Sandberg and I will be your grade 3 teacher for the 2018/2019 school year at Royal Oak. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
Last year at Royal Oak School, I taught grade 2, but have now moved on to grade 3 for this year. I recently graduated from the University of Calgary with my Bachelor of Education in May 2017. I specialize in elementary social studies and STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Prior to teaching, I worked as a researcher at the University of Calgary, developing STEM activities for K-12 education, which include coding, robotics and 3D printing. During this time, we also designed a permanent coding exhibit that is currently at TELUS Spark. You can access my coding website and my Twitter through my teacher blog at: http://mrsandberg.blogspot.com/?m=1.
I am also a musician and former guitar teacher. I have over a decade of experience playing guitar, bass and drums in various bands. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology from the University of Calgary, where I focused on primate evolution and prehistoric human migration. I was born and raised a Flames fan in Calgary and currently reside in Airdrie with my wife, daughter, dog, and a baby on the way.
I am very excited to have this opportunity to teach your children and will strive to do my very best. I strongly believe in maintaining open lines of communication. Please don’t hesitate to contact me; I will do my best to respond as soon as possible. My email address is wjsandberg@cbe.ab.ca. I also believe that parent engagement is an important part of student success and I know that I will have many volunteer opportunities for parents this year.
Finally, the school administration has asked all teachers to encourage parents to use your “My CBE PowerSchool Account” to pay online for school fees. More information can be found here:http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/royaloak/registration/fees/fee-faq/pages/default.aspx.
Thank you for your time, I look forward to meeting everyone.
Sincerely,
