Inquiry
We have started to design Arctic House for the future. Students have identified 3 challenges that Arctic cities in the future will face and they will build houses that will be adapted to solve those challenges. Ask your child what challenges they are trying to solve.
Starting tomorrow, we will be building Arctic houses from recyclable materials. Please send empty pop bottles, small cardboard boxes, popsicle sticks and any other materials they may want to use. I have materials here, but it's helpful for the students to be able to select their own materials.
Math
We continued geometry today, learning about Perimeter. We looked at the length of sides on squares and how we can add those sides up to find the perimeter of the shape. Students built their own squares and then calculated the perimeter of their squares.
Arctic Story Writing
We have begun to take our story boarded Arctic stories and write them into an actual story. We have discussed setting, characters and story starters among other things. Student's brainstormed several story starters today and started writing their story introductions.
Some of our story starter ideas...
Once upon a time...
A long time ago...
One day..
Far far away....
It was a stormy day...
Here is the story we started together as a class:
