Inquiry
We have begun a new inquiry into Peru and Endangered Animals, specifically using the disciplinary lens of Conservation Biology and Ecology. This week we started exploring the landmarks and geography of Peru. As well, we begun to investigate classifying animals in Kingdoms, Phyla, Classes. Students have been carefully considering what phenotypic attributes we can and should sort different types of living things by. Below is an example of students sorting aliens based on physical traits.
Literacy
Students are continuing to work on the comprehension, research, and critical thinking skills in literacy. We are reading articles about various similar animals, take jot notes, and then comparing and contrasting those animals with Venn diagrams. This is to further develop student's skills for animal research, while also linking to our Animal Lifecycles inquiry.
Math
In math we have begun to explore Money and Time. Identifying, what does money look like? How do we calculate Dollars and Cents. What does the Decimal mean?
Circle Fridays!
This Friday will be the first Circle Friday! I'm so excited to be running Wizards, Elves, and Rogues: Storytelling and Problem Solving. I cannot wait to get students role-playing!
Students have been told what Circle Friday club they are in and so be sure to ask them what club they're in.
Field Trips!
Yesterday (Monday, April 1st) I sent home field trip forms for our April 30th Field Trip to the Story Book Theater presentation of Treasure Island. Please fill out forms and return as soon as possible.
