PATTERNS
This week in math.....
We continued working with word problems and we started explicitly building Repeating, Repeating, Repeating patterns and GROWING Patterns. We reviewed patterns and then used a patterns and music program I created, to experience making patterns. Finally, students created and recorded some of their own patterns.
Here is a link to my patterns and music program:

Inquiry
Thanks to all the parents who were able to come with us down to the Wetlands again. With the help of our volunteers, we were able to get down to the wetlands this week to look for evidence of insects and try and find patterns in nature. We found more galls, spiders, insect trails in logs, wood pecker holes, and lots of burrs...
We also learnt how to use Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast communities in the past with our communities. Ask your students about things that are the same and different about living in the prairies in the past versus today.
Writing
Over the past few weeks, have been steadily working on building our vocabulary of descriptive words. This week, we began taking our descriptive words and creating stronger sentences. Here is an example of some of our students sentences:
Art
Thanks to all the parent volunteers who have come to help out during our Artist in Residence!
We have been building off of our knowledge of insects in order to create some harmful vs helpful insect art.
Mrs. Fortowski has been guiding the students to make art resembling the artist Eli Halpin. here is some of her work that we are modeling ours on:
Check out what we have done so far:
Home Reading
