Week in Review Nov. 5 - 9th

MATH: Multiplication
Finding 'Groups Of'... to efficiently count and then find a total number of a grocery item.

The apples are stored in two boxes with 6 in each. Are there other ways to box the apples up? What combinations could you come up with?

We did the lemons together as a class. Ask me about my strategies!

We started to notice that the larger the total number of fruits/vegetables- the more ways we could make 'groups of'. Ask me why the total number of objects doesn't change, but the combinations of 'groups of' can change.

We even had a chance to explore Algebra... when we make different combinations of groups! For example, in the picture above we made 2 groups of 5 (2*5) + 2 groups of 4 (2*4) = 18.

Inquiry - Geologist Field Reports
This week we have been analyzing our rock tests in order to write geological reports about our rocks and about where they fit in the rock cycle. We are working on a field journal that analyzes the rocks from the rocky mountains and specifically look for answers as to why the Frank Slide happened at Turtle Mountain.

Here are an example of some of the student rubrics that students use to write their paragraphs.

Wild Robot
We are coming to the end of our novel study on the Wild Robot. Stay tuned for a Wild Robot related project in the coming weeks.
