Have a Great Long Weekend, Don't Forget to Read!
Math
This week in math we continued our exploration of subtraction, using double digit stacking strategies and using math racks to work on our mental math strategies. In class we use physical Math Racks, but below is a link to my online Math Rack. Ask your child to use the math rack to show you a simple subtraction equation.
Inquiry
We have continued to build our boats and there are some amazing and creative inventions. We built them all, from cruise ships, cargo ships, to speed boats and canoes. Today we took photo's of our work-in-progress boats and posted them to our IRIS for you to see. Next week we will be testing our boats to see if they can float for 5 minutes and how much of a load they can carry.
Literacy
I hope everyone is reading lots over the weekend. We are nearing the end of the year and it's important to keep up our practice and continue to make progress!
With our inquiry into the Maritimes and specifically the Mi'kmaq, the students have been curious about the Acadian Expulsion and the treatment of Indigenous peoples at residential schools. Today we read the book, When I Was Eight, about an Inuit girl's experience in a residential school. You can listen to the book at the link below.
May Long Weekend
Have a great weekend and remember there is no school on Friday, May 18 or Monday, May 21.
